Country Music Star Toby Keith Gives First Update Since Stomach Cancer Diagnosis

Toby Keith, an American multi-platinum-selling country music singer, songwriter, actor and record producer, recently gave an update about his health following his stomach cancer diagnosis.

In June 2022, Keith, famous for songs such as "Should've Been a Cowboy” and “How Do You Like Me Now,” announced he was stepping away from music after getting diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021. Following his diagnosis, he received chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

In a preview released from an interview with the TV show CMT Hot 20 Countdown, Keith explained he was feeling optimistic but needed more time to recover from cancer treatment before returning to music.

“I’m thinking about getting back in fighting shape,” Keith stated. “I need a little bit of time to rest up, heal up. … It’s pretty debilitating to have to go through all that. But as long as everything stays hunky dory, then we’ll look at something good in the future.”

Katie Couric teamed up with a baby formula company and a nonprofit to donate formula to new moms who were impacted by breast cancer.

Katie Couric, the journalist and founder of Katie Couric Media, donated $25,000 worth of baby formula to new moms who were affected by breast cancer, through partnerships with the formula company, Bobbie, and the breast cancer nonprofit, The Breasties,

Couric, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2022, announced the formula giveaway in a Zoom call hosted by The Breasties on behalf of Bobbie. Over 100 women will receive a year’s worth of formula.

Couric also announced that she and the CEO of Bobbie are launching a public petition for women whose breast cancer diagnosis impacted their ability to breast feed. The petition, which has more than 11,000 signatures to-date, is advocating for insurance coverage for donated breast milk or formula for these women.

“I was really excited and honored to be a part of this initiative by Bobbie to be able to share some really good news with so many of these women who have been through an awful lot, and not only need emotional support but need financial support as well,” Couric said in an interview with “PEOPLE.”

Brazilian soccer legend, Pele, was admitted to the hospital because of cancer complications.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the Brazilian former soccer player known as “Pele,” who was labeled the “Player of the Century” by FIFA, was recently hospitalized with “general swelling,” according to a social media post by his daughter, Kely Nascimento, who said that the hospitalization came as “no surprise or emergency.”

A statement from the hospital where Pele is admitted read, “Edson Arantes do Nascimento was hospitalised at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein yesterday for a reevaluation of the chemotherapy treatment for the colon tumor identified in September 2021.

"After medical evaluation, the patient was taken to a common room, with no need for admission to a semi-intensive unit or ICU. The former player is in full control of vital functions and stable clinical condition."

The CEO of Barclays was diagnosed with cancer and will undergo treatment in New York City.

C.S. Venkatakrishnan, CEO of the London-based international bank, Barclays, announced that he received a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and will undergo treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer in New York for an estimated 12 to 16 weeks.

Venkatakrishnan said that he plans to continue working and fulfilling his duty as CEO during his blood cancer treatment, which he hopes to be curative.

“The good news is that the matter has been detected early, with scans and biopsies confirming it to be very localized,” he said in an interview with CNN. “The doctors have advised that my prognosis is excellent, and my condition is curable with their prescribed regimen.”

Virginia representative A. Donald McEachin died from colorectal cancer.

Rep. McEachin, a democratic representative from Virginia, died on Monday, according to a statement from his chief of staff, Tara Rountree.

“Valiantly, for years now, we have watched him fight and triumph over the secondary effects of his colorectal cancer from 2013. Tonight, he lost that battle,” Rountree wrote of McEachin, who was 61 years old at the time of his death.

McEachin was described as an “environmentalist, civil rights advocate, faithful public servant, and a man of consequence, by Rep. Gerry Connelly. “There was no better ally to have.”

McEachin was recently reelected for the fourth time to serve Virginia’s 4th Congressional District, which spans from Richmond to the North Carolina border.
