For Professional Freelance Writers Thank you for your interest in writing for CURE. Our magazine brings the latest cancer updates, research and education to patients, caregivers and health care providers. Cancer is a complex disease both scientifically and personally. Our approach is to provide scientifically based information for the lay reader. This requires special care taken by our writers in accuracy and tone. Our audience is struggling with a devastating disease that includes myriad drugs and prognoses. We want to provide them information and hope while being careful not to make medical claims that may make their own journey more difficult. We include the human voice of patients in our articles. Therefore, please approach all writing as featurized. We use quotes and the voices of not only physicians but also actual patients. Accuracy is essential. To varying degrees, we will provide outlines and suggested contacts. We ask that you enterprise interviews with survivors and incorporate their comments where appropriate. Please avoid patients who have been interviewed for prior publication or those who have been showcased by pharmaceutical companies. People with cancer want to read about other people with cancer. Finding patients can take some time. Talk with your editor about ideas for your local. We will be glad to collaborate with you on the stories as we work toward the goal of making cancer more understandable for those who are on the journey. Because we are committed to error-free information, we ask that you confirm all facts with sourcing provided either in a comment field or at the end of the document. We also require an interview release from all patients. Our fact checker is also required to verify all facts given in quotes, so if a source gives a number or statistic, ask for the study or source. We accept queries, but no unsolicited manuscripts. Please include enough detail in queries to demonstrate that you have resources for the science behind every story. Send all queries to editor@curetoday.com. Do not fax queries. All writers MUST have medical writing, preferably cancer-related, and interviewing experience. DO NOT send us your materials if this does not describe your experience. Please mail or email your resume and three or four relevant clips to: CURE Editorial666 Plainsboro RoadBuilding 300Plainsboro, NJ 08536 editor@curetoday.com. We will be glad to work with you on the stories as we work toward the goal of making cancer more understandable for those facing the journey.
