Tamron was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma — a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure — in 2007, as a 21-year-old new mother. As a woman diagnosed at just 21 years of age, she was anything but the typical mesothelioma patient. After more than a decade of living with mesothelioma, she began to share her experiences with others by blogging on Asbestos.com.

Cancer is a word that strikes fear into many hearts. Yet, those who live with it, fight it, and support others through it are some of the most resilient, compassionate, and powerful people I know. Trust me when I say I know this all too well. I have experienced cancer first as a patient, then as a caregiver to my husband, and an advocate for myself, my grandmother, mother-in-law, and others.
I’ve learned that surviving cancer is not just about completing treatment or getting "no evidence of disease" from your doctor. It’s about strength, endurance, and courage in the face of the unknown. It’s about the bonds formed with fellow patients, the support from caregivers, and the wisdom shared by advocates who tirelessly fight for better outcomes day in and day out.
There are so many incredible souls I’ve met along this journey that I can’t name them all. Collectively, our strength, compassion, and commitment to each other and the cause are truly life-changing. Together, we are a community of resilience and hope.
To my fellow cancer survivors, you are proof that resilience and hope can turn a diagnosis into a new beginning. Your journey is an inspiration to everyone who’s ever faced cancer, and through your unwavering spirit and incredible courage, you carry the torch for those still fighting.
To the doctors and care teams who dedicate themselves to the intricate art and science of healing — thank you. Your ability, compassion, and tireless work make all the difference. With every step you take, you inspire hope and remind us that through the power of medical science, healing is possible.
To all the caregivers who selflessly support their loved ones: your strength and unwavering love are a constant reminder of the power of human connection. You are the unsung heroes who walk beside us in our darkest hours.
And to the incredible advocates who fight for cancer patients everywhere: your voices matter. You amplify the needs of the community and ensure that no one is ever forgotten in the battle for better care, research, and support.
As we close out National Cancer Survivor’s Month, which is recognized every year during the month of June, I want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you to every cancer survivor who’s given their all. Your strength fuels me every day, and together, we keep fighting for a future where cancer no longer holds the power to take lives or destroy families.
The fight isn't over, but every shared story, every moment of support, and every step forward builds an unstoppable wave of hope that carries us all. Let's keep that wave crashing, louder and stronger, transforming obstacles into steppingstones and fear into unwavering resolve for a brighter tomorrow.
I encourage you to join me in this mission — to recognize the special ones in your life and in your community. Share their stories, offer your support, and let them know that they’re not alone. Cancer may be a Goliath opponent, but together, we’re a force to be reckoned with.
Let’s continue tipping hats to the warriors who inspire us every day. Share your story, honor someone you love, and help amplify the voices of those who have made an impact on your journey.
Together, we’re stronger. Together, we thrive!
#HatsOff to you.
