“I know this will come as a shock to many, but I am OK, and I will be OK. Early detection saves lives” Dabrowski, 32, posted on Instagram on Dec. 31, of 2024.
Dabrowski said in the post that she felt a lump in her left breast during a self-examination in the spring of 2023 before eventually receiving her diagnosis in April of 2024.
“Fast forward through two surgeries at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, recovery, rehab, … a slight delay in further treatment to be able to compete at Wimbledon and the Olympics, radiation and fatigue [between Toronto and U.S. Open], starting endocrine therapy, ending the season on the highest note possible … it all seems surreal,” Dabrowski wrote in the post.
According to the Associated Press’ report Dabrowski, ranked third in women’s doubles, did not play in April and May due to surgery and returned to the sport in June. At Wimbledon in July, Dabrowski, who is Canadian, and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand lost the final to Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.
