SUPPORTING ULTRASOUND AFTER MAMMOGRAM

This is in regard to Donna Langlois’ letter about ultrasounds (Winter 2016; page 11). I agree with her. I also have “dense” breasts, and if weren’t for that extra test, my breast surgeon would not have found my tumor. He said, “How’d they miss that?”

I had gone to a local hospital for a mammogram and ultrasound, but they found nothing; this was in the summer of 2011. In December of 2011, I got another symptom in my right breast and considered “blowing it off” because of that stupid hospital! I did get tested, but if I’d had just the mammogram, my story would’ve ended differently, too. So, I agree with Donna. In some cases an ultrasound is necessary.

LOVING CURE

I just wanted you to know I have been receiving CURE magazine for several years, and I cannot tell you how much it has affected me professionally and personally. Thank you for this wonderful resource!

AFFECTED BY POEM

I am a writer and 10-year survivor of end-stage cervical cancer. Gregory Carroll’s present-tense poem “The News is Bleak and Then it Gets Worse” is deeply descriptive of emotions after being diagnosed. Wishing you health and songbirds, Gregory!
