So, it is crucial that they understand what a trial is all about, according to Laurel W. Rice, M.D., chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, and president of the Society for Gynecologic Oncology (SGO).

While some trials do include an arm of patients who receive a placebo, many more actually compare an investigative medicine versus a standard-of-care treatment, so all participants are getting treated.
