A determined Texas bluebonnet

forced itself through our crushed asphalt driveway.

An unlikely spot for such a flamboyant flower.

I’m worried it will be crushed by my husband's truck.

Or decapitated by a hungry deer.

But each day, I find it safe,

enjoying life, dancing on the breeze.

Two days ago, it rained hard.

The flower, I assumed fragile, survived the storm.

It stands rooted, with perfect posture,

still glossy from the rain.

The lone bluebonnet is not sad, bitter, or angry.

Life is simple and uncomplicated.


My takeaway –

It is better to shine brilliant blue in a sea of gray than be a faceless flower in a sea of blue.
