I took this photo in Bodie, California, a ghost town. This picture captures the reflection of the town through the store window. It reminds me of the past, present and future.

I used positive visualization as a form of meditation when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I imagined a place that made me feel secure and calm, as a way to get me outside my stress, to help me forget what was going on in my body. The place that always came to mind was the road to our Colorado mountain cabin. Not the cabin itself, nor the mountains or meadows surrounding it. My mind went to the way there, to the hopeful anticipation and energy I feel as I approach our place of serenity and beauty. A few years after treatment, I painted that road. I made it through treatment, I made it to the cabin. We all make our own way; we all have our own road.

Into My Life

Throughout my diagnosis and treatment, I would daily begin the journey with a sketch in my sketchbook recording my feelings, concerns, joys, hopes, fears and determination to be a victor over Breast Cancer. In this sketch, completed following my chemo and radiation, I convey my feelings of being &quot;the girl in the glass jar.&quot; My life is more private than the entire experience afforded me from the double mastectomy to radiation, etc. My life was wide open. Yet in this reveal, there is a bird of hope. It is the hope in my art then and now, that keeps me going.
