Acrylic paintings of Cancers Survivors all done on 16x20 canvas. This is a collage of all the paintings. All of the portraits are of people who attended a cancer survivor camp in Colorado called Epic Experience. I have been there as a camper and as a volunteer. Just a small way for me to give back.The paintings will also be on the cover of a book, written by one of the campers, coming out soon.

As a self-taught artist and a breast cancer survivor, it is important to me that others understand the devastating effects of breast cancer. One of the ways I can help convey that message is through my art. And this paining, I portray the unseen woman, the one who seems to fade into the woodwork. As she goes through diagnosis and treatment the world becomes chaotic and uncertain. Often others can&acirc;&euro;&trade;t see or understand how those things make her feel. And while she feels unseen, she continues to fight for her life. Against all odds, she pushes past the difficulties and creates her new normal, a different, more colorful world of reality.

The dictionary defines a crucible as a test of faith, patience or strength. For me, cancer became the crucible in which my faith, patience and strength were tested. Ten years after a diagnosis of tongue cancer and seven years since a diagnosis of breast cancer, I am alive and well and stronger than ever, especially mentally and spiritually. It may sound strange, but cancer was a gift that changed my life and made me a better person.
